TMJ Physiotherapy Services
Our Physiotherapists have specialized training in the treatment of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD). This includes complex disorders that affect the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connecting the jawbone to the skull.
A variety of factors can cause TMD such as trauma, stress, overuse, and systemic disease. Dysfunction in the TMJ can affect vital functions such as your ability to eat, talk, smile, yawn, and breathe. A detailed assessment will identify any non-functional habits you may have with the jaw, as well as mobility and strength in the jaw and neck. When appropriate, an intra-oral assessment will be performed to determine how the TMJ moves and assess muscular tone and function.
Treatment will be tailored to the individual, though all clients can expect to receive education around their symptoms and the biomechanics of the jaw. Other treatments might include soft tissue release, joint mobilization, and therapeutic exercise.
