Physiotherapists trained in Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy are:

Carolane Chevrier

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

For a lot of people, the function of the pelvic floor is not well understood. If asked to contract the pelvic floor muscles, the majority of people fail to engage the correct muscles. A healthy pelvic floor needs to be able to contract when necessary and be strong enough to oppose the pressure coming from the internal forces pushing downward (intra-abdominal pressure). Pelvic floor rehabilitation aims to help clients properly recruit and strengthen their pelvic floor through methods such as verbal, manual and proprioceptive feedback, biofeedback, neurostimulation, and customized exercises programs.

Who can benefit from Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation?

  • women experiencing leaking (occasionally or on a regular basis)
  • pregnant women looking to minimize birthing complications
  • post-partum women
  • clients who want to improve their pelvic floor function
  • clients with pubic, pelvic, tailbone, or lower back pain

Common conditions treated include:

  • leaking/stress urinary incontinence
  • urgency/over-active bladder
  • organ prolapse
  • diastasis rectus abdominus (DRA)
  • coccydynia (painful tailbone)
  • nocturia (frequent urination at night)

Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture

TCM, or Traditional Chinese Medicine, is a longstanding, complex medical system that when broken down, is all about holism and balance. It considers your health from an all-encompassing lens; mind, body, and more, and recognizes everybody, and every body, brings with it their own unique patterns.

Helpful in a broad range of ailments and conditions, the TCM process begins with a whole picture of your health. This helps us to decipher any potential imbalances that may be at the root of your main health concern. Restoring well being and balance to your system is then achieved by initiating your body’s natural self-healing mechanisms through the use of 1 or any combination of TCM’s 5 main modalities- Acupuncture, Herbal medicine, Diet therapy, Exercise therapy, and Tui-na (a form of massage/acupressure therapy)

Additional TCM modalities offered here include: Cosmetic/Facial Acupuncture, Acupressure, Electro-Acupuncture, and Cupping.

*Should you still be curious if TCM is the right fit for you, don’t hesitate to contact us, as we will put you in touch with our practitioner who is happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Alternatively, we offer a free 15-minute ‘Meet & Greet’ should you like to meet and discuss in person.

Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)

IMS involves the insertion of a very fine, sterile needles into tight muscles to create a reflexive muscle relaxation. In turn, this can relieve muscle tension across joints to reduce pain, inflammation, and restriction. A special assessment is completed to determine if this treatment is appropriate for your condition. After treatment, it is common to be sore up to 48 hours. IMS is usually recommended no more than once a week should treatment prove to be effective.
